Freedom Real Estate and Capital, LLC (Freedom) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Starfish Holdings, Inc.  Freedom was established in 2014 to invest and manage commercial real estate.  We have developed a long-term investment strategy around commercial rental income properties in the Huntsville Alabama area, particularly southeast Huntsville. Our key focus is to own,hold and manage long term commercial real estate to return a reasonable profit. Over the next three years we will purchase approximately two buildings per year to be renovated and modernized to attract premium tenants.  We will also be open to partnering with other investors/firms to develop properties. We will do business in a way to be recognized for our ethics, fair play, and win-win results for all stakeholders. We will also build strong partnerships with key real property professionals, i.e., sales brokers/agents, financial institutions, law firms, building trade contractors, real estate service firms, and others. Bill Roark, CEO

Bill Roark will guide the investment strategy of Freedom.   Bill Roark also co-founded and currently serves as CEO of Torch Technologies, Inc., and has over 30 years of management experience. As the CEO of Torch, Roark  guided Torch to national recognition as one of the Top 100 Fastest Growing Companies in America, according to Entrepreneur Magazine, and to multiple selections on the Inc.5000 list recognizing the Fastest Growing Private Companies. Torch Technologies, Inc, just celebrated a 15 year Anniversary while still expanding business and giving back to our local community.  

 

During his tenure at the company, Torch was twice awarded the Better Business Bureau Torch Award for outstanding business ethics and has been recognized by the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce as the Small Business of the Year in Technology (2007).  Roark considers employee relations and benefits two of the most important aspects of business management, and he has worked diligently to ensure top benefits and working conditions, resulting in local recognition as one of the Best Places to Work in Huntsville/Madison County and national recognition by The Principal Financial Group as one of The Principal 10 Best Companies for Employee Financial Security, as well as recognition by Inc. Magazine and Winning Workplaces as a Top Small Company.  Roark is actively engaged in the community having served as Heart Walk Chairman and on Exec Committee for Heart Association.  He is currently Co-Chairnam of the Community Foundation of Huntsville and Madison County where is is actively engaged in development of the Community Catalyst Fund.

 

Roark earned an M.S. in Physics from the University of Kentucky and a B.S. in Mathematics from Cumberland College.

Sue Clark,  CFO

Brenda Conville, Director of Real Estate

Brenda Conville leads the day to day operations of the company, including the business planning and brokerage activities as well as assisting the team with property management, financial operations, marketing and tenant relations.  Ms. Conville coordinated the activities of the two most recent acquisitions, the multi-tenant office building at 2001 Nichols Drive and Office Park South on Boulevard South.  Ms. Conville will continue to assist the CEO with the development and execution of the implementation of strategic business and operational plans and projects.

Prior to joining Freedom in April of 2017, Ms. Conville spent over thirty years leading the brokerage and property/facilities management functions at two prominent commercial real estate companies in Huntsville, and for an international defense contractor, serving as the liaison between the company’s operations and landlords in its multiple locations throughout the country. 

 

She serves on the board of directors for the local chapter of the Building Owners’ and Managers’ Association (BOMA), is active in the International Facilities Management Association (IFMA), and regularly volunteers her time with CASA, a local non-profit organization serving the low-income, elderly community.

Ms. Conville holds a bachelor’s of science degree in Business Management from Athens State University, and has earned the Certified Property Manager® designation from the Institute of Real Estate Management.

Melissa Patch, Property Manager 

Melissa joined Freedom Real Estate & Capital in August 2017. A seasoned professional with more than fifteen years commercial property management experience, Melissa has navigated a wide range of property management projects throughout her career – from multi-family and mini-storage development to management of office parks and retail centers.

Melissa focuses on maintaining strong relationships with tenants and owners and brings an energizing level of honesty, dedication and dependability as she works on behalf of our investment portfolio.

Melissa’s extensive experience with all aspects of property management means she is as confident with leasing, tenant improvements and the day-to-day building operations as she is with maintaining vendor relationships and financial reporting. She is highly skilled in budget preparation and operating cost reconciliations.

A native of Huntsville, Melissa attended Calhoun Community College and is working to obtain her Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) designation. 

Matthew Rizzio, Marketing & Managing Coordinator

Matthew joined the Freedom team in August 2017, and is taking the lead on marketing plans,website design, and assisting with day-to-day operations on future projects. With a background in marketing and supply chain management, Matthew brings creativity mixed with tech innovation to the Freedom team. 

Prior to joining the Freedom team, Matthew helped start up a local moving company while finishing his degree at The University of Alabama in Huntsville. After graduating, Matthew went on for 2 years as an operations manager for Target distribution.  

Matthew is a Huntsville native and obtained a Marketing with Supply Chain Management degree from The University of Alabama in Huntsville. 

Warren Steber, Building Engineer

Warren Steber joined the Freedom team in October of 2017 as the Building Maintenance Engineer.  Mr. Steber ensures the building systems are working properly and the contracted services are being performed according to the contracts. He coordinates the activities of the maintenance support contractors, assists with coordination between tenants and construction activities, and performs any routine maintenance and repairs with the HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems needed at the properties in the portfolio.

Prior to joining Freedom, Mr. Steber spent seven years as the lead maintenance technician with Madison County, assigned to the public safety complex which houses the Madison County Jail.  He was responsible for all maintenance activities associated with the complex, to include heating and air conditioning, electrical, plumbing, elevators, doors and locking mechanisms, coordinating the activities of support contractors, and maintaining the maintenance supplies and inventory.  Mr. Steber also spent several years as an elevator mechanic’s helper.  He holds numerous certifications in the mechanical, plumbing, and locks trades.

Mr. Steber studied at Southern Union Community College, attended J. F. Drake Technical College for his HVAC training, and completed years one through three of the National Elevator Industry Education Program.  His volunteer work includes community clean up days, assisting elderly residents with their lawn maintenance and handyman tasks, as well as having served as a volunteer firefighter.
