Huntsville, AL – October 24, 2023 – Bill and Brenda Roark have been honored with the 2023 Community Philanthropy Award by the Community Foundation of Greater Huntsville. This award is presented annually to recognize local individuals or families who strongly commit to community generosity.
The award ceremony occurred at the Von Braun Center, where local business and community leaders gathered to celebrate the Roark’s’ long-standing contributions to the Huntsville community. Melissa Thompson, CEO & President of the Community Foundation, commended the couple, saying, “The Community Foundation of Greater Huntsville is so proud to recognize Bill and Brenda Roark as the 2023 Community Philanthropy Award recipients. Bill and Brenda epitomize what it means to be generous. They invest their time, talents, and financial resources in this community they love, and our community is better because they are a part of it.”
Bill Roark, founder and CEO of Starfish Holdings, Inc., the parent company of Torch Technologies and founder of Freedom Real Estate & Capital, LLC, attributed much of his success to his wife, Brenda. The couple has been together since sixth grade and has been actively involved in philanthropy throughout their lives.
Ray White, Chair of the Community Foundation Board, emphasized the Roark’s positive impact on the community, stating, “Brenda and Bill truly live out the Community Foundation’s tagline of being “here for good.” They have a true passion for simply helping people and improving the quality of life in our community. Moreover, they serve as role models for so many people, and I’m positive that they will inspire generosity in others for generations to come.”
The Summit on Philanthropy celebrates and inspires local generosity, including honoring the recipients of the Community Foundation of Greater Huntsville’s Community Philanthropy Award.
